For CBC’s 2020 Olympic coverage we wanted to make a series that took the viewer to Tokyo without leaving their house. The problem was the pandemic meant we couldn’t leave the house either.
We tried to turn this challenge into a strength by shifting the focus to our host’s connections to Japan, and how those connections still influence his life today.
Shorter pieces shot by a Tokyo unit maintain a lighter feel and deliver a sense of place, and remote interviews connect us to the people of Tokyo. Watch the complete 18 part series here.
